Critical Reception is all Concerned Critics and Audience Responses Critics and audiences, so far, have given “Run!” sporadic reviews. Over 33 users registered a rating averaging 5.1 out of 10 on the IMDb website.
According to MontiLee Stormer’s review posted on the website MovieReelist.com and Rotten Tomatoes, “It’s the kind of movie you put in when you need to wait for the pizza to arrive but only look at it when there’s loud noise in the movie, ‘Lets just eat our pizza’. It is primarily used as background, and it might have been more.”
This implies that even if the film has some thrilling moments, it is unlikely to captivate the audience’s attention for the whole duration, if indeed for long periods of time at all.
Analysis
The film “Run!” poses an intriguing storyline which raises the question on what particular acts would prove too extreme to save a person in the act of trying to help another. The deserted location of the desert makes the dramatic aspects of the characters’ plight all the more intense, as though nature itself is acting as an antagonist within the story. It is expected that the film grapples with an alarming rate of suspense because its plot is organized around the introduction of complications and a race against time. Others however have some concerns about possible limitations on the implementation of these aims, like a thorough development of the characters and a temporization of events which casts doubts on how impactful the overall experience might be.
The actors, particularly Jeremy Miller and Alena von Stroheim, are key in bringing the emotional aspect of the plot. They play a husband and wife couple whose bond is put to the ultimate test and it is these moments of the film that seek to provide emotional depth. The supporting cast like Les Feltmate and Benjamin Watt also feature successfully in the plot by providing a menacing mood that drives the story forward.
On screen, the desert scenery is instrumental in setting dread and suspense into the film. For Dalen Muster, such an approach informs the isolation and survival themes while the cinematography captures the inherent beauty and threat of the barren landscapes. The music composed by Deron Miller and Stephen Petree on the other hand seeks to accompany the visuals by creating tension and drawing attention to significant scenes of the film.
To conclude, when fresh deserts are the setting for the game of cat and mouse, ‘Run!’ is a brutal experience waiting to unfold. The film however has intriguing elements that draw in suspense and excitement, but mixed reviews also indicate that some parts may be lost on the audience. For fans of horror thrillers that take a deep look into humanity and survival, run provides them with a story that pushes the characters physically and emotionally.
